This new work came out of a conversation around the potter’s wheel. We decided to explore shallow dish shapes with the addition of small ruffled pieces in a contrasting material. Our initial idea was to make wearable brooch and necklace pieces but some of the forms evolved to become larger and more sculptural.
Bridget threw the porcelain dishes deliberately thinly and unevenly to encourage the clay to tear and pleat naturally to echo the natural fluid lines of Anna’s leather ruffles. We used a range of different glazes on the dishes and added intricate leather ruffles in contrasting and complimentary colours.
